In spring, Riga comes alive: the city streets fill with energy, and the events calendar becomes especially saturated and versatile. If you are looking for things to do in Riga in spring, this guide will help you discover the most exciting cultural and family-friendly events, as well as activities for every taste. From traditional celebrations to contemporary art, spring 2026 in Riga promises to be diverse and engaging.

Cultural events in Riga

WINDSTREAM Spring Festival

From 20 March to 27 May, Riga will host the WINDSTREAM Spring Festival, organised for the fourteenth time by the Orchestra “Riga”. The festival, held under the motto “Wake up and remember, listen and enjoy!”, will present five stylistically and thematically diverse concerts featuring wind instrument music performed in interpretations of Latvian and international composers.

Grand Easter Celebration and the Market

On 5 April, the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum will host the Grand Easter Celebration – a bright and joyful spring event for the whole family. Visitors can take part in traditional egg decorating and egg rolling, enjoy swinging on large traditional swings, explore Latvian folk traditions, and enjoy songs and dances performed by folklore groups. The festive atmosphere will be complemented by a craft and local producers’ market, as well as a theatre performance for children. This is one of the most popular family spring events in Riga.

Museum Night

On 23 May, the annual Museum Night will take place, during which museums across Latvia, including those in Riga, will remain open until midnight. Admission to museums is free, and visitors can enjoy themed tours and creative activities. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience Latvia’s cultural heritage, art and history in an informal atmosphere, and to see museums in a completely different light – illuminated at night and offering special programmes not available on regular days.

Riga Art Week

From 25 to 31 May, Riga will host a contemporary art festival featuring exhibitions, pop-up events and masterclasses. The festival programme will include both Latvian and international artists, offering visitors insight into diverse forms of contemporary art. If you are interested in creative and visual events in Riga in spring, this festival is an excellent choice.

Organ music concerts at Riga Cathedral

From March to May, Riga Cathedral invites visitors to attend organ music concerts. This is a unique opportunity to hear one of the most famous organs in the world – an impressive Romantic-era instrument built in 1883. Short “Concerto Piccolo” concerts (20 minutes of organ music) take place almost every day at 12:00 noon, while extended musical programmes are held on Fridays at 7:00 pm.

Outdoor activities in Riga

Rimi Riga Marathon

On 16 and 17 May, the largest running event in the Baltic States – the Rimi Riga Marathon – will take place. Participants can choose distances from 5 km to the full marathon, and children can take part in a special “Kids’ Morning” event. The route runs through the most beautiful parts of Riga, creating an inspiring atmosphere for both runners and spectators, while the support of fans and the festive atmosphere across the city turn the weekend into a true celebration of sport and an active lifestyle. This is one of the most significant sporting events in Riga in spring.

A walk through Riga Zoo

In spring, when animals awaken after the winter quiet period, the zoo invites visitors to enjoy relaxed walks among the enclosures and pavilions. Families with children can take part in educational activities and observe animal feeding sessions. Spring is also an excellent time to see newborn animals and observe nature awakening up close while enjoying time outdoors.

Regardless of whether you are interested in cultural or family events, or active leisure, spring in Riga offers plenty of opportunities. Follow the latest events calendar and choose the type of leisure activity that lets you experience the city at your own pace. Spring events in Riga are a bridge between winter calm and summer energy.
