On 7 and 8 June, the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum launches the summer event season by hosting its annual craft fair, which brings together artisans, small producers, and master craftsmen from all over Latvia. Visitors can purchase high-quality, authentic handmade goods – from crafts and local delicacies to cosmetics and books. Folk groups, dance and vocal ensembles, and musicians will provide entertainment, alongside demonstrations of traditional games and the chance to sample national Latvian dishes. The museum is easily accessible from the city centre – the nearest public transport stop (trolleybus route No. 31 from “Tērbatas iela”) is just a short walk from Konventa Sēta Hotel.

Traditional herbs market
On 20 June, just steps away from Konventa Sēta Hotel, Dome Square will host the traditional Midsummer herbs market ahead of the Līgo festivities. Visitors will find bunches and bouquets of herbs believed in Latvian folklore to have magical properties, along with oak and meadow flower wreaths, traditional Latvian cheese, honey, handmade crafts, and other locally produced delights.
Līgo celebration in Dzegužkalns Park
On the evening of 23 June, residents and guests of Riga are invited to one of the city’s most beautiful parks – Dzegužkalns – which becomes the main location for Riga’s Ligo celebration. From 7:00 pm until dawn, the park will come alive with songs, dances, wreath-making workshops, and traditional bonfires. The programme includes folk ensemble performances, Līgo song concerts, and traditional games for both children and adults.
Rīgas zaļumballe: a night of dancing under the stars
For a taste of the traditional Latvian open-air dance party – Zaļumballe – which takes place across the country on Līgo night, head to Mežaparks’ Green Theatre on 23 June. The festive dancing will continue into the early hours, with music provided by popular Latvian artists and DJs.

From 1 to 20 June, the Latvian National Opera invites audiences to its annual Riga Opera Festival. International Folklore Festival “Baltica 2025”
From 26 to 30 June, the city will echo with folk music as folklore groups from across the Baltic region perform in Riga. XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival
From 5 to 13 July, Riga will once again become the centre of Latvian folk culture as it hosts the 13th Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival. Held every five years, this grand celebration brings together thousands of young performers from across Latvia. It’s a powerful tribute to national identity and a joyful opportunity for everyone to experience the spirit of Latvian traditions.
Positivus Festival 2025
On 8 and 9 August, on the other bank of Daugava, on Lucavsala island, the largest music festival in the Baltic region – Positivus – will take place. Thousands of music lovers will gather to enjoy top pop, rock, electronic, and alternative artists. And don’t you worry about getting there: Konventa Sēta Hotel is just a short bus ride (trolleybus No. 4 from “Inženieru iela”) away from the venue.
From 10 to 13 July, if you’re a fan of contemporary art, head to Hanzas Perons, a culture and entertainment venue, for the Riga Contemporary art fair. Entry is free, and you can view and purchase artwork from over 35 countries. The event is a mix of exhibition and marketplace, offering a wide selection of contemporary works – from up-and-coming talent to internationally recognised names.
From 15 to 17 August, Riga will celebrate its 824th birthday with a full programme of festivities across the Old Town, 11. novembra krastmala river bank, and city parks. Concerts, street performers, children’s activities, artisan markets, and tasty food await both residents and guests.
In the city centre, there will also be a unique 24-hour basketball tournament – “Krastu mačs”, where teams will compete non-stop, energised by live DJs and musicians.
