On Thursday, 22 August, the “Annual Best Building in Latvia 2023” competition was held, in which 70 construction projects completed last year competed for recognition in eight categories.
Konventa Sēta Hotel took third place in the “Reconstruction and Restoration” category for the renovation, during which the entire historic hotel complex with six buildings, 161 high-class rooms, and five meeting rooms suitable for conferences and other celebrations of various scales and formats was updated. The reconstruction of the old buildings was carried out in three stages and lasted a total of six years.
During the creation of the new interior of the hotel, a more modern layout was introduced, a major renovation of the premises was carried out, and new internal engineering networks were built, such as electrical networks, heating, ventilation, sewage systems, etc. The facades of all buildings were also updated, and ramps for people with special needs were installed. An important condition in the creation of modern engineering networks was the preservation of historical elements, such as the old city defensive wall, which forms one of the walls of the building.
In addition to the comprehensive reconstruction of the buildings, special attention was paid to the improvement of the inner courtyard of the hotel complex and the creation of landscape infrastructure – from the irrigation system to new soil – while preserving the historic charm of the place and its picturesque streets.
The grand opening of the renovated Konventa Sēta Hotel took place in May 2024.
The general contractor for the reconstruction work was Pillar Contractor, SIA. The project architects were Palast Architekts, AS, and Pillar Architekten, SIA. The interior design was created by Vilnis Mičulis.
The “Annual Best Building in Latvia 2023” competition was held for 26th time. The jury consisted of nearly fifty industry professionals. The experts visited all the nominated projects in person, and more than half of the objects were evaluated in the competition finals during presentations by architects, builders, and clients.
